Offline billing software — the counter does not stop when the line does

Billing, printing, barcode and stock run on the machine at your counter. The cloud is where the data goes afterwards, not where the bill is made.

The actual problem

Why this matters in a Delhi market

In a crowded market a broadband line drops, a shared connection slows to nothing at 7pm, or the mobile data in a basement shop simply is not there. On cloud-only software the counter stops — and it stops at the busiest hour, with a queue in front of it.

Most well-known billing products are cloud-first, because that is easier to build and easier to sell. It is the right choice for a chain with a leased line. It is the wrong choice for a shop in a market with one patchy connection.

Stated plainly

What keeps working, and what does not

Keeps working, no network

  • Making and printing a GST bill
  • Barcode scanning and weighing-scale billing
  • Stock deduction and item search
  • Customer credit (udhaar) ledger
  • Day-end reports and cash tally

Needs the network

  • Card and UPI payments — the bank is online
  • Swiggy, Zomato and ONDC orders arriving
  • The e-invoice IRN request, where it applies
  • Seeing today’s sales from outside the shop

Pending IRNs and cloud sync catch up by themselves once the line is back. Nothing has to be re-entered.

Being specific

Who this suits

Small and local traders above all — a kirana shop, a chemist, a single-counter cafe, a market stall, a store in a basement or a crowded lane where the connection was never good. Also any counter where stopping for ten minutes means a queue walking out.

If your shop has a reliable leased line and you want software you never touch, cloud-only is fine and cheaper to run. We would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Billing, printing, barcode scanning and stock deduction all run from a local database on the counter machine itself, so a dropped connection never stops a bill. Data syncs to the cloud automatically when the network returns. Card and UPI payments still need connectivity, because the bank does.

Card and UPI payments, aggregator orders arriving from Swiggy or Zomato, and the e-invoice IRN request where e-invoicing applies. Everything else — billing, printing, barcode, stock, day-end reports — carries on. Pending IRNs are pushed automatically once the connection is back.

Haan. Billing, printing, barcode aur stock — sab counter ki machine par hi chalta hai, isliye net jaane par bhi bill banta rehta hai. Net wapas aate hi data apne aap cloud par chala jata hai. Card aur UPI payment ke liye net chahiye hota hai.

No. The bill is written to the local database as it is built, not at the end, so a power cut loses at most the line you were typing.

Both, and that is the point. It runs locally so the counter never stops, and it syncs to the cloud so you can see sales from your phone. Cloud-only software stops billing when the line drops; local-only software cannot show you anything from outside the shop.

Once the shop reconnects, yes. While the shop is offline the bills are being written at the counter and have not reached the cloud yet — nothing is lost, it is just not visible until the connection returns.
